There Is No Becoming.
June 11, 2016

There Is No Becoming; michael sean symonds

.

There is no becoming in awakening, there is only revelation – here/now. What’s seen, what’s revealed, is that which was sought – was already/always Ever-Present in the Seeing. Though thought, thinking, & thinker, might forever seek beauty, wholeness & love, it forsakes the inherent fact that it is already made of the very-same, Ever-Present, Beauty, Wholeness & Love.

Insight #89 ~ ZEN Shredding…
July 17, 2011

.

Sometimes you need to say Yes to life.

Life is a paradox; sometimes you need to step outside the comfort of the bunny hill to move forward and evolve.

Extended commentary:

All life is change; some of it feels easy – some of it feels very hard.  One thing for sure is that we love to feel like we are in control of that life – always.  When things are going well, it’s easy to say YES to life – as if we even remember!

When things are not so cool; when life does not flow according to our own expectations, “YES” is usually quickly re-placed by a solid NO.  Ironically, regardless of what we do or know – what we think or practice,  no [you] is ever in control.

For many years I was very much player on the “you create your reality” team.  While around for many, many centuries, it jumped from the periphery of alternative teachings into  “consciousness community” around 30 years ago, and then into the mainstream with the advent of teachings like “The Secret” and the “Law of attraction”.

If you are lucky, or if the path you follow in your “becoming” has any integrity,  you will eventually bump into reality.  It will be clearly seen that no [you] has ever had the power to control reality in any form or way.

While this might go against the grain of conventional thinking and the generic, sanitized, egoic teachings that seem to presently saturate 21st  century spirituality, there is a point in awareness where [one] clearly see’s – there is no one there to control – let alone a “someone” who can “intend” a particular reality or outcome that will be made real.

At most, and perhaps more importantly, we are speaking of subjective perception only that can appear to be managed – not reality.  If we are to be completely honest and neuro-biology backs us up; the “you” that you imagine yourself to be arrives in “time” – long after the appearance of reality has arisen.

So it’s only at the level of mind that we can try to affirm or deny what might already be appearing in this present moment now, and if you are on the treadmill of quarter-backing your life – if you imagine yourself to have, and be your mind, then managing the mind is the only opportunity you will ever have to influence, so-called reality.

In the legacy of her radical, ground breaking book, “Why I survive Aids”, Niro Markoff Assistant said: “Healing is accepting Who We Are and saying yes to it – without trying to change anything”.

If there were such a thing as Truth, it would encapsulate the essence of Niro’s profound insight and commentary on life – what is, already is
– or isn’t.  Shall we continue to consume ourselves, placing valuable attention, effort, and solace in trying to micro manage the details of life according to some imagined ideal/mind, or will we at once investigate our imagined control, and ideals with which we attempt to live life, and instead dive into life itself – to remain alert, awake, aware and present to that unfolding life and the presence of Who We Are…

Just released ~ “Something…”
June 19, 2011

Dear friends!

I’m very excited to share with you my latest Title and first colaboration!

” S o m e t h i n g “

I had the honor of co-creating this project with an amazing Photographer and friend Laureen G Pentelescu… “Something” is a prose poem that endeavours to point to the timeless, inspiring mystery and magic we call Spirit ~ to something that lies beyond the thinking mind.

Selectively illustrated with twenty breathtaking, full coloured images; Laureens unique vision and vibrant compositions escort the reader and each verse of “Something” with dexterity and genious.

And, to make things even more exciting, I’ve produced a short, inspiring video, that includes a sneak peak at some of the words and images you’ll find in the book!  It’s all wrapped up in a song that really inspired me, called “Picture in My Head” by an American Indie Band called Household Names…

Please enjoy the fruits of our labour : )

On Belief…
June 4, 2011

There is no value in aligning yourself with another belief system if you are at all interested in finding out Who You Are.  Beliefs are simply revised, self engendered, sanitized forms of conditioning.  A mind that is conditioned can never be [free].

Belief systems are transient and irrelevant to Who You Are; they only appear to provide relative comfort for the perceived mind, in a field of absolute chaos.  They temporarily reinforce the psychology and fiction of a so-called person, providing a moment of poise in the swell and dellusion of subjective understanding.

As we penetrate their relevance and applicability to life and living, we can quickly see that at best, beliefs only distract awareness into a deeper trance; a further belief that there is a person who understands something, when in fact, there is no-one to understood anything.

The only way one can be [free] is to confront the legacy of belief systems we have inherited.  To consciously investigate with awareness the idea that there is in fact a believer in those beliefs, and the idea that we are not free!  As long as we breed the idea within mind a notion they exist in ways we imagine, there will be struggle.

Better said; once the fiction of a person is examined and the nature of their supposed thoughts and beliefs are confronted – there is no question of freedom or bondage.  It’s faith and trust in belief that causes suffering.  It’s the belief in a separate individual person called “me” that is the core of our perceived delusion.

Crack the shell of understanding and reality will reveal itself to itself; it has too.

You can spend your life investing in alternative ideas that try to explain and organize the dellusion of your own or anothers understanding, or you can allow awareness to Be; where there is no need to rely on nickel and dime philosophies of reality or so-called spirituality.

There is nothing the matter with involving yourself in the daily Puja of belief, if you are looking for comfort and poise – until the bubble of that comfort and poise is popped.

Then what will [you] do?

Will [you] take the opportunity to dive into, and rest in choice less, thoughtless, timeless, unchanging awareness?

In the space of awareness – the space and [freedom] of Being can be found.  A [place] were the so-called local, and so-called non-local, shuffle and mingle in the dance called life.

However; as long as there is a belief in awareness can there be awareness?

Insight #88 ~ ZEN Shredding…
May 21, 2011

Trust the process of your life.

Most of us have been taught to earn trust.  Sometimes you just need to step out and trust a person, place or experience, regardless of what fears you may have.  Granting trust to the moment can cause radical transformation if you have relied heavily on your own fears to run your life.

Extended commentary:

As I have alluded to in some previous “ZEN Shredding” posts, once a book has been printed [including a blog post] ~ the idea is recorded.  It’s apparently set in stone to permanently mark an expression of an idea that was or is, held in mind; an idea that may or may not have any further validity, as you move into the naked, fresh, canvass of a new moment.

Ideas are transient in nature, they come and they go.  At best they are metaphoric representations of any given state of awareness that might have been.  They do not inherently hold meaning, significance or Truth outside any that might be assigned to them by the mind itself, in those thinking’s and in those writings.

Ideas are not direct expressions of who and what we are, although at times they may more directly point to the truth of Who We Are.  Regardless of what might be believed, ideas can only ever hint at but never replace, substitute, or “be” Truth ~ this is dogma and continues to remain the domain of most religious organizations.

I imagine this can be very disconcerting for [a person] who madly entertains the idea and possibility they can write with any sort of coherence on subject matter related to the Absolute (as “I” attempt to do).  However, I cannot fathom the possibility of anyone demanding an allegiance or commitment to any document that somehow considers itself as a replacement for reality as so many faith traditions have previously done.

As I reflect on the past couple of years since the writing of ZEN Shredding and the subsequent follow-up “Extended Commentaries”; I realize more and more how my book was not really a new beginning for me but instead and more-so, a synthesis and ending to many ideas which would shortly, vigilantly and systematically be examined.  Many ideas that would in due course be consumed in the fire of deconstruction, since the original writing and publishing of this work.

This ongoing observation and perspective sanitizing process clearly shows up for me each time I begin to draft the words of follow-up posts related to those extended insights.  It is seen that I can no longer consider some of those ideas as part of the paradigm in which I organically operate from.  Those ideas and concepts have of necessity, dropped off the radar of my perception and understanding with which I see and experience my life.

It seems this deconstruction process has become an integral part of my experience; a theme to the rhythm and path of my unfolding life over the last six years.  While initially subtle it seems to have accelerated to a degree of intensity I could never have anticipated, and there are no areas of my life that have not been touched by the wand of its wanton destruction: relationships, work and world view.

At a comforting distance, it makes complete sense.  Nothing can be more organic than the understanding and expression of a changeless Self that is the heart and impulse of an ever-changing, transient, world.

How can a mind anticipate and imagine, let alone understand, capture or control, the natural expression and impulse of Spirit as it touches this ever-present, unfolding moment called NOW?

Said differently; most conventional spirituality is based on the adoption of entertaining ideas and concepts that try to explain and organize the chaos of Being to some degree of merit and understanding.

The prominence and popularity that New Age Spirituality has garnered, is largely a result of the fact that one can simply shop around for ideas and concepts that suit the personality or ego within that moment. Is there danger though, that we might become disabled or trapped in those very ideas and philosophies that were meant to enable greater levels of subjective freedom and intimacy to a so-called Soul?  Can any idea itself cause the revelation we so desperately seek or is it, as so often has been suggested ~ that we already, always are.

Spirit is more than mind and Spirit is more than any understanding mind could ever provide.  Crazy as it might seem and however disconcerting; the so-called process of realization could be more easily described as a process of UNLEARNING ~ a letting go of; the creation of space for something inherently more real to be felt, seen and known.

It is easy to understand the nature of the relationship to suffering we may experience in life; a suffering that is often reflected in the degree to which we have identified ourselves to ideas, thoughts, notions and beliefs so often labeled as truth ~ self engendered ideas of self, others and the world we live in that are consciously or unconsciously part of our so-called spiritual path.

I cannot express how easy it is to find words ~ to type them in; compared with the actual experience this deconstruction process has had on [my] subjective world.  I can see how easy it would be for the idea and desire to arise to want and need some escape to the imagined comfort of an Ashram or retreat, to allow this process to unfold with an assumed relative ease.

How delicious the temptation is, to avoid the need to face the everyday, day to day demands that constantly tug and pull at awareness in so many delightfully seductive and distracting ways.  To “be in the world but not of it”; what a profound insight into the apparent dilemma and desire of a twenty first century yogi as he bumps into twenty first century living.

For many, the deconstruction process has been described in more fanciful and romantic ways: Dark night of the Soul, Existential Crisis.  Any person of faith and conviction who has some extraordinary commitment to oneself and the fervent discovery of their own inner knowing will eventually bump into the limits of their own thinking and any particular allegiance it may have to a philosophical system.

We must hone our ability and willingness to confront; we must defiantly risk exposure of those ideas and their relevance.  We must examine wholeheartedly, with the light of awareness, the applicability of those cognitive commitments to see if there is a rapport, rhythm and flow of those ideas to the unfolding, inner knowing and experience that presently exists within the wisdom of Soul.

As we sit on the precipice of new understanding, waiting for the bubble of our own understanding to be popped by the light of awareness; we must temper our need, desire and compulsion to pullback from new revelation.  And in the salvation of that clear seeing, witness the bound as it becomes unbound.

When it comes to the fire of conflict and struggle that lies in the deconstructive process known as Dark night of the soul; what can be seen is how easily the mechanics of thinking can distract oneself from the present moment now with its essential nature and vitality.  It is only in our ability to be stripped naked of thinking and the notion of [me] that we will truly be free to thrive in the space between us.

Who do you trust the most and for what reasons?
