(We) discover the nature of suffering by seeing nearest thoughts, by examining present thinking & acknowledging hard held beliefs harbored towards the existence of a so-called thinker. In unraveling the nature of suffering, (we) coincidentally re-discover ever-present, Essential Nature.

Insight #89 ~ ZEN Shredding…
July 17, 2011

.

Sometimes you need to say Yes to life.

Life is a paradox; sometimes you need to step outside the comfort of the bunny hill to move forward and evolve.

Extended commentary:

All life is change; some of it feels easy – some of it feels very hard.  One thing for sure is that we love to feel like we are in control of that life – always.  When things are going well, it’s easy to say YES to life – as if we even remember!

When things are not so cool; when life does not flow according to our own expectations, “YES” is usually quickly re-placed by a solid NO.  Ironically, regardless of what we do or know – what we think or practice,  no [you] is ever in control.

For many years I was very much player on the “you create your reality” team.  While around for many, many centuries, it jumped from the periphery of alternative teachings into  “consciousness community” around 30 years ago, and then into the mainstream with the advent of teachings like “The Secret” and the “Law of attraction”.

If you are lucky, or if the path you follow in your “becoming” has any integrity,  you will eventually bump into reality.  It will be clearly seen that no [you] has ever had the power to control reality in any form or way.

While this might go against the grain of conventional thinking and the generic, sanitized, egoic teachings that seem to presently saturate 21st  century spirituality, there is a point in awareness where [one] clearly see’s – there is no one there to control – let alone a “someone” who can “intend” a particular reality or outcome that will be made real.

At most, and perhaps more importantly, we are speaking of subjective perception only that can appear to be managed – not reality.  If we are to be completely honest and neuro-biology backs us up; the “you” that you imagine yourself to be arrives in “time” – long after the appearance of reality has arisen.

So it’s only at the level of mind that we can try to affirm or deny what might already be appearing in this present moment now, and if you are on the treadmill of quarter-backing your life – if you imagine yourself to have, and be your mind, then managing the mind is the only opportunity you will ever have to influence, so-called reality.

In the legacy of her radical, ground breaking book, “Why I survive Aids”, Niro Markoff Assistant said: “Healing is accepting Who We Are and saying yes to it – without trying to change anything”.

If there were such a thing as Truth, it would encapsulate the essence of Niro’s profound insight and commentary on life – what is, already is
– or isn’t.  Shall we continue to consume ourselves, placing valuable attention, effort, and solace in trying to micro manage the details of life according to some imagined ideal/mind, or will we at once investigate our imagined control, and ideals with which we attempt to live life, and instead dive into life itself – to remain alert, awake, aware and present to that unfolding life and the presence of Who We Are…

Something: The Poem…

“Something”

[The Poem]

By

michael sean symonds

.

Did you notice,

something is there.

Something simple and silent,

something awake and aware.

Something rarely noticed,

something ever at hand;

the timeless presence of Being

is already

there.

.

Did you notice,

something is there.

Something open and empty,

something fundamental and free.

Prior to words or notions,

prior to beliefs or ideas,

something naked and untouchable

is unmistakably

there.

.

When you were born,

it was there.

When you were frightened,

it was there.

When you were confused and angry,

joyful or sad,

it was also,

always

there.

.

Prior to philosophies of the mind,

it is ceaselessly there.

Without special effort,

Presence

is deliberately

there.

Beyond the sweet and sour,

beyond the ebb and flow.

Beyond thought or method,

beyond feeling or practice,

Presence

is precisely,

patiently,

plainly,

there.

.

Did you notice

awareness is there,

simple and silent,

awake and aware.

Previously unnoticed,

immediately at hand,

something remarkable

is choicelessly,

undeniably,

there.

.

Did you notice

awareness is there,

something open and empty,

something fundamental

and free.

Prior to words and notions,

prior to beliefs and ideas,

awareness is thoughtlessly,

wordlessly,

obviously,

there.

.

In the midst of all happening,

something is there.

Something still and silent

something spaciously aware.

Between bliss and anger,

between lust and joy,

something is irresistibly,

unquestionably

there.

.

Did you notice,

nothing is there!

Nothing

becomes something,

something

becomes nothing.

Constantly clear,

alert,

and available,

something
perfectly precious

is spontaneously

there.

.

Something is here that

is already aware,

between the “light” and the “dark”,

between the “in” and the “out”.

Without any search,

without any effort,

something is here

that is already

aware.

.

Here by itself

behind the noise of knowledge.

Here by itself,

behind understanding.

Here by itself,

behind the noise of perception;

a sense of is-ness

is indescribably there;

the stillness of Being

that is already

aware.

.

Who is that you

that is endlessly there,

the one that watches,

the one who is aware?

Naturally quiet,

innocently aware,

it’s the stainless you

who is here,

and surely

aware.

.

Untouched by emotion

undivided by perception,

you’re free of thought and memory,

feeling and association.

.

Fully awake,

alert,

and available,

it’s here by itself,

the ONE that’s aware.

Without need or motive,

without affirmation or care,

it’s here by itself,

the ONE that’s aware.

.

In the midst of this now

you are here and aware;

undoubtedly always,

here and aware.

.

Rest in the fact

you are here and aware;

always here,

always
aware.

.

Settle in the joy

you are here and aware,

always here,

always

aware.

.

Just released ~ “Something…”
June 19, 2011

Dear friends!

I’m very excited to share with you my latest Title and first colaboration!

” S o m e t h i n g “

I had the honor of co-creating this project with an amazing Photographer and friend Laureen G Pentelescu… “Something” is a prose poem that endeavours to point to the timeless, inspiring mystery and magic we call Spirit ~ to something that lies beyond the thinking mind.

Selectively illustrated with twenty breathtaking, full coloured images; Laureens unique vision and vibrant compositions escort the reader and each verse of “Something” with dexterity and genious.

And, to make things even more exciting, I’ve produced a short, inspiring video, that includes a sneak peak at some of the words and images you’ll find in the book!  It’s all wrapped up in a song that really inspired me, called “Picture in My Head” by an American Indie Band called Household Names…

Please enjoy the fruits of our labour : )

After Thought #55
June 11, 2011

.

Our fall from Grace is the story of becoming.

It’s the appearance of a “me” in a world that wants to be something, do something, have something or think something.  From the earliest age we are conditioned into believing we need to do something with our life – in order to be.

Most of us will spend the rest of our lives caught up in the treadmill of this misunderstanding.  Trying to live up to an unrealistic expectation of becoming that will inevitably cause anxiety, stress, and neurosis.  Wrapped up in the ball of success and the notion of finding happiness, we are entrenched in the belief that life is about being bigger, being more, and being better.

We label it personal growth; we often call it spirituality – but it’s all the same.  It’s a delicious invitation based on the unspoken premise that something is inherently missing or wrong with us – as we are, and therefore needs fixing.  It’s the story of a seeker that needs to do something; it’s a journey of finding something that we actually, always, already are.

It’s seductive because there has to be a doing in order to get – there has to be.  There can be no becoming without action or merit, without work or achievement, without some sort of understanding or knowledge.

And we have lots of fancy names and fancy philosophies to justify when our becoming fails; we call it Karma and Samsara, we call it genetics and conditioning.  All these notions are used to reinforce the idea that we are somehow incomplete as we are; that in order to be complete – to be whole; we need to understand something or worse yet, accept some idea or someone, in order to find what’s apparently missing.

The greatest of religions have thrived on this neurosis; that in as much as we might try to be good or better, we will forever be subject to some greater authority that weighs toll, on the inferior, subject “me”.  And therapies of this kind or that incubate ideas that we are separate and thus flawed.

We diligently pop our pills and repeat affirmations; we do our Yantras, Mantras, Mudras and Tantras in order to recondition a body and mind that has already been conditioned.   But what if it fails?  What if it is all an illusion, based on an erroneous idea of lack – a deluding notion of separation lost in a perception and languaging of duality?

What if we already are?

What if we always are?

Can we rest in the simplicity and Art of Being?

No more, no less.

You Are Enough!

On Belief…
June 4, 2011

There is no value in aligning yourself with another belief system if you are at all interested in finding out Who You Are.  Beliefs are simply revised, self engendered, sanitized forms of conditioning.  A mind that is conditioned can never be [free].

Belief systems are transient and irrelevant to Who You Are; they only appear to provide relative comfort for the perceived mind, in a field of absolute chaos.  They temporarily reinforce the psychology and fiction of a so-called person, providing a moment of poise in the swell and dellusion of subjective understanding.

As we penetrate their relevance and applicability to life and living, we can quickly see that at best, beliefs only distract awareness into a deeper trance; a further belief that there is a person who understands something, when in fact, there is no-one to understood anything.

The only way one can be [free] is to confront the legacy of belief systems we have inherited.  To consciously investigate with awareness the idea that there is in fact a believer in those beliefs, and the idea that we are not free!  As long as we breed the idea within mind a notion they exist in ways we imagine, there will be struggle.

Better said; once the fiction of a person is examined and the nature of their supposed thoughts and beliefs are confronted – there is no question of freedom or bondage.  It’s faith and trust in belief that causes suffering.  It’s the belief in a separate individual person called “me” that is the core of our perceived delusion.

Crack the shell of understanding and reality will reveal itself to itself; it has too.

You can spend your life investing in alternative ideas that try to explain and organize the dellusion of your own or anothers understanding, or you can allow awareness to Be; where there is no need to rely on nickel and dime philosophies of reality or so-called spirituality.

There is nothing the matter with involving yourself in the daily Puja of belief, if you are looking for comfort and poise – until the bubble of that comfort and poise is popped.

Then what will [you] do?

Will [you] take the opportunity to dive into, and rest in choice less, thoughtless, timeless, unchanging awareness?

In the space of awareness – the space and [freedom] of Being can be found.  A [place] were the so-called local, and so-called non-local, shuffle and mingle in the dance called life.

However; as long as there is a belief in awareness can there be awareness?
